Mary Elizabeth (Rockwell) Flora - Daughter of John & Rebecca Rockwell

OBITUARY

FLORA - Mary Elizabeth, daughter of John and Jennie Smith Rockwell, was born Oct. 23, 1889, in Knox County, near Mount Vernon, Ohio. One of seven children, she spent her early years in and near her birthplace. While young in life she joined the Church of her choice, the Old German Baptist, to which she remained faithful.
She was united in marriage with Noah Henry Flora on Aug. 11, 1914. To this union were born 10 children, 2 of whom died in infancy. She with her companion were called to the office of Visit in 1942, which she well filled as long as she was able.
Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1954, leaving here to care for herself for almost 17 years. The last 4 were spend in the Allen County Home. She broke her hip and had several times become real low. Twice she called for the anointing as instructed by James, which brought her much comfort, and she would gain strength for a little while. In her last confinement she was in bed one week, and then in the hospital 1 1/2 days. Her nature was to be very patient in her afflictions, always looking on the bright side to a goal ahead. She passed to the Great Beyond on July 11, 1970, at 12:55 a.m., in Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 18 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing 8 children: Harvey, Earl, Carl, Hazel, Francis, Donald, Kenneth, and Robert; 42 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: John D. and Sharon J. Rockwell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Two grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters preceded her in death. She has fought a good fight and finished her course, and her victory is won as the angels beckoned and she answered the call.
Funeral services were conducted on July 13, at 2:00 p.m., at the Ash Grove church, by the home brethren. Hymns used were 498, 393, 399, 411, 403. Text: Philippians 1:21. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
